Volunteer on the Land
Join us at Woodbank for a day's volunteering on the land, learning from our team of growers and FarmStarters about how we run the site to produce organic produce on a commercial scale.
These volunteering sessions are a great way to learn about different ways of growing food organically and in a wildlife-friendly way. They're also a great way to start you on your journey as a grower, as many sites will look for previous experience before hiring.
Here at Woodbank Community Food Hub, we offer regular sessions led by an experienced team who will guide you through all the tasks for the day, including providing you with all the safety equipment and information. We also give an afternoon presentation on everything you've learnt on the day, whether that's how to grow food while maintaining the biodiversity on site, or how to manage weeds - there's something for everyone's interests.
"We started volunteering during the pandemic, and honestly those Wednesdays were the best time of the week. We got to spend valuable time outside in the sunshine with our hands in the soil, and learnt so much about the different plants growing on the site and how they complimented the produce growing there. We even got to help little frogs find their way to the ponds! Highly recommend for anyone wanting some space from the bustling city, and for anyone looking to get into growing - you learn so much while doing the work."
