As part of Growing Manchester, Kindling carried out a on Monday 26th April for a select group of community growing projects included Abundance Manchester and Manchester Drugs Service's Waterloo Project. Growing Manchester invited a small number of applicants to attend the pilot to provide feedback and suggestions to help refine and improve the workshop for its official launch on Wednesday 26th May.
Strong Roots is one element of Growing Manchester's programme of support to encourage more food production within our communities. It is a one-day workshop that walks community food growing projects through a sustainability criteria, looking at:
- what is being looked for in a successful project.
- obstacles that groups might face in meeting the criteria.
- inspiring examples of how projects have addressed these obstacles.
- what tailored support a project may need to help groups meet the criteria and get funding.
The day was broken down into manageable sections providing information, advice and an opportunity to discuss, review and plan for the participant's future development.
Growing Manchester is a fledgling partnership between FoodFutures, HARP, Hulme Community Garden Centre, Debdale Eco Centre and The Kindling Trust.
