We are seeking experienced, committed and passionate growers to join us at our Kindling Market Garden in Stockport and on Kindling Farm in Merseyside. And we have full-time and part time posts available.
2026 will see some exciting changes to the way we grow fresh organic food for our two city regions of Gtr Manchester and Liverpool City Region. Greatly increasing the quantities of food we grow, closely working together across both sites, utilising the strengths of a market garden and a 78 acre farm to create a truly sustainable community of food producers.
Kindling Market Garden is a 2 acre organic site based at Woodbank Community Food Hub, on an ex council plant nursery in the heart of Stockport. Starting here over 8 years ago we have been ramping up production, particularly over the last 3 years. Our star crops here are our delicious salad leaves, fresh herbs and garlic and we grow a range of other polytunnel and field crops to broaden our offer. This season we are seeking to meet the true potential of this well located urban site and to grow in a way that is both more efficient and less physically impactful on our team of growers.
Kindling Farm is a 78 acre farm in Knowsley, purchased in April 2023 to establish a fruit and veg based organic agroforestry system. In our first growing season (this last year) we produced a range of field-scale crops (strawberries, courgettes, squash, brassicas, celery, beetroot etc.) and polytunnel crops (tomatoes, spring onions) in our 720m2 tunnel (which we hope to increase next season as finance allows). We are now getting ready to scale up our production and markets for the coming season.
Kindling Market Garden and Kindling Farm are part of a wider family of projects and organisations set up over 15 years ago with the aim of creating a fairer and more sustainable food and farming system for all. We have worked hard to build relationships with our buyers, create our own markets and engage our communities. Bringing these two sites together, to really ramp up our scale of organic food production, is an important and exciting step towards this vision.
We are looking for the right people with the skills, practical experience (including use of machinery for the farm) and passion to help us deliver our ambitious plans.
While there are specific job descriptions for each site, there may be opportunities to work across the two sites depending on your skills, hours available, your preference and the needs of the different sites.
