Many gardeners are discovering the benefits of growing healthy food without any soil cultivation. As well as saving yourself the effort of digging, rotovating, 'forking through' or whatever you call it, you will find that weeds will eventually grow much less, vegetables will grow just as well, or better, and soil sticks less to your boots - it all makes a big difference to the pleasure of being out in the plot!

More about Charles.

Charles Dowding began growing commericially in 1982. By 1987 he was cropping seven acres with four apprentices and was becoming  well known for his abundant harvests and few weeds. He then moved on to manage successful gardens in southwest France and Zambia before returning to Somerset. There he established another garden on clay soil, and supplied local shops and restaurants with salad from an acre of undug beds, with output near £30,000 in 2011 and 2012.

In 2013, he created a new and smaller garden in Alhampton, once again on weedy, clay soil pasture. Here he grows salad and a few vegetable boxes,  and is always carrying out many experiments and trials in his garden

Charles Dowding is the author of four books which have sold over 35,000 copies and has contributed to a number of publications. He runs day and monthly mentoring courses at his new garden at Homeacres, near Castle Cary, Somerset. He also teaches give talks and leads courses locally and nationally.
