Do you fancy learning some new farming skills; spending half a day on a beautiful farm with a nice bunch of people; helping out local farmers, and being part of a wider movement to increase sustainable food production around the City?
Then Greater Manchester's Land Army is just the thing for you!
We are looking for volunteers to trial this exciting new project with us. Working with four local organic growers, this first outing will be doing a range of urgent tasks, from a 'hoe down' to raspberry picking, at a time when farmers are struggling with the challenges the weather has thrown up.
Our solution has been inspired by the women's land armies of the First & Second World Wars, and are offering a solution to a number of challenges faced by local organic growers, including labour issues and costs at busy periods. So for example, because harvesting of soft fruit is really labour intensive, picking them either leads to very expensive fruit, or fruit being left on the bush to rot.
This is where a Land army of volunteers can help!
We will provide induction, transport from Central Manchester, refreshments and any equipment you'll need for an enjoyable and satisfying afternoon in the countryside.
Raspberries will be ready for picking very soon, so we are looking for able and reliable volunteers on either the afternoon of (we hope to meet up at 12.00 and get you back to Manchester again by 6pm):
- Wednesday 6th July.
- Monday 11th July.
If you are interested email us as soon as possible at: mail@kindling.org.uk (please type Land Army into the subject bar, say which of the days you could do and provide a phone number).
We look forward to hearing from you.
