FeedingManc Website

Development of the FeedingManchester website is progressing well with a draft of the initial logo and website design sent out for comment.

Matt has been busy over the last few months building the database and website, whilst designers 'Circle Interactive' are developing a brand which reflects the ethos of FeedingManchester.

The screen-grab opposite is the initial design and we've received many helpful suggestions and comments. Feed back and comments so far include:

  • Some useful accessibility testing for those with visual impairments or disabilities.
  • Suggestions of more landmarks to include in the Greater Manchester skyline such as Jodrell bank and the wind turbines and to make the fields in the foreground less monoculture.
  • “Nice and bright, clean and clear.”
  • “What four fantastic words, I want to buy it, I would like to watch it grow and harvest, the rest is history.”

The website will enable, for example:

  • A householder looking for local organic food to search for food retailers and be shown the nearest options, opening hours, types of food sold and any specific dietary requirements they cater for.
  • Someone interested in volunteering to search for community projects in their area, and find out what they do, what type of volunteers they are looking for - they could even contact the project directly from the website.
  • A play-scheme looking to source fresh fruit and vegetables to search by product type and find growers or delivery schemes in their area.
  • A local farmer with surplus produce for sale to advertise to food processor businesses in the City.

We are planning to launch the website on Valentines Day (2011) around the theme of 'Love your local farmer'.
