FarmStart walk Sat 11th July

Simon and Emily FarmStart

In collaboration with the Princes Countryside Fundhttp://www.princescountrysidefund.org.uk and Trafford Ramblers group, we’re organising a guided walk through the Cheshire countryside that will take in Abbey Leys organic farm and farm shop, plus our FarmStart site.

FarmStart is the UK’s very first incubator initiative for new organic growers. Without hefty savings or a farm in the family, starting a new career on the land is almost impossible for most people. By providing access to affordable land, shared equipment, training and a ready market, we’ve created a supported route into farming for brand new entrants. FarmStart means that skilled and enthusiastic people from all backgrounds can build new careers in producing fresh, healthy, sustainable food for their local markets.

The walk starts at 11am from Abbey Leys Farm where there is plenty of car parking, toilets and a farm shop. The guided route is approximately 4.5 miles long and will involve stiles, short uphill sections and some uneven ground (and cows!).

On arrival at FarmStart, there will be a tour of the site, the opportunity to meet some of the new growers and also some of our Land Army volunteers who will be working on the land. The walk will finish back at Abbey Leys farm with tea and cake (for a donation) and a chance to visit the farm shop.

If you have any questions about the route please email rcgmembership@yahoo.co.uk.

Unfortunately we can’t allow dogs on this walk, as we maybe crossing fields containing livestock.
