Ever been interested in organic farming but not sure if it’s for you? Now is your chance to find out at Kindling’s Do You Want to be a Grower event! On Monday 21st September from 6:30 to 8:30 Kindling will be hosting an event along with local growers to give you a flavour of what being an organic grower involves, warts and all.
The growers from Mossbrook Growers will be presenting their experiences of organic growing in Greater Manchester. Alex, the co-ordinator of Kindling’s FarmStart programme will also be there to share his experiences, and those of the growers through Farmstart this year.
Here’s what a couple of our growers have had to say:
“You might not think a quarter of an acre isn't large but it is when you aren’t used to it.” Simon Duffy, 2nd year FarmStart grower 2015
“The FarmStart programme allowed me to channel my passion and values and to take risks, while introducing me to the world of preparing, growing, distributing and selling food. For me, this is the right route to farming. Going to college or doing a placement wouldn’t have had quite the same effect”. Caroline Ward, 2nd year FarmStart grower 2014
We are also currently advertising for our Autumn Commercial Growers course which will give a broader experience of what goes into running an organic farm commercially. Applications for the course close 27th September; for more details, please email Alex at alex@kindling.org.uk
