During this practical half day workshop, the South Lancs & Cheshire Metal Detecting Club will guide beginners through the fundementals of metal detecting, teach us how to document our findings and introduce us to ethical practices. Supported by members of the group, you will head into one of our fields where you can put your learning into practice and develop your technique under the guidance of more experienced detectorists. Bring your treasure back to our Detectorist Finds Table in the barn!

This workshop is suitable for beginners. All equipment will be provided.

The South Lancs & Cheshire Metal Detecting Club is reputed to be one of the oldest and one of the more successful Detecting Clubs in the UK. Founded in the autumn of 1978, the group work with farmers and land owners to coordinate metal detecting days for it's members. Through their work, the group have raised thousands of pounds for various Charitable causes. The SLC meet on the first Wednesday of each month at St Basil's Parish Centre on Hough Green Rd, Widnes WA8 4SZ from 8pm.

This activity is suitable for all ages however, please be mindful that it does involve walking across uneven ground for over an hour and being outdoors in all weathers so it might not suit everyone!

It’s a good idea to wear sturdy footwear - walking boots or wellies are ideal. Even on a sunny day, the site can feel chilly so we’d advise wearing a couple of layers. And of course, we never can trust the weather so always bring waterproofs.

You must register to come to this event. If you find you can no longer make it, please let us know so we can offer the places to those on our waiting list.

To help us keep track of car parking spaces, please email us ahead of time to secure a parking space. Email: hayley@kindling.org.uk

The farm is about to undergo refurbishment so unfortunately it is not wheelchair accessible at the moment. We have limited facilities with one indoor toilet which is up a set of stairs. As a working farm, the ground can be uneven in places making activities in the fields difficult for those with limited mobility. If you have any questions about access, please contact: hayley@kindling.org.uk
