Join us for a walking tour of our 78-acre organic agroforestry farm!

Training level: Beginner
Event details:

As part of this year's national  Agroforestry Open Weekend, we invite you to join us on a walking tour of the Northwest's very own 78-acre organic agroforestry farm!

Led by Kindling Director, Stuart Jones, you'll learn about the heritage varieties we have onsite and the prominent role they play in our farming system and the wider food supply chain.

Stu has been a part of Kindling Farm since the very beginning; he's witnessed the farms development from muddy, heavily ploughed fields to the ambitious agroforestry system that it is today. He plays a key role here at the farm from planting crops in the fields to guiding strategic decisions; he's a wealth of knowledge who will be on hand to answer your questions throughout the tour.

In 2021, as part of a Heritage Lottery project run by our sister organisation the Kindling Trust, over 9,000 fruit trees were grafted including 40 heritage UK varieties. Over 1000 of these now form Kindling Farm’s agroforestry system and orchard. Over the past 2 years, we've been working with volunteers to plant these trees onsite. Come and see how our agroforestry farm is evolving!

Please note that this activity includes quite a lot of walking; it is not uphill but the ground is uneven and could be tricky for those with limited mobility. Please wear flat, sturdy footwear.

This activity is open to everyone with an interest in food and farming. All ages are very welcome to join us! However, please be mindful that our farm is not accessible for prams or pushchairs and the tour will involve 2 hours of walking.

We kindly ask that you don’t bring your dogs with you as it is ground bird nesting season.

The farm is about to undergo refurbishment so unfortunately it is not wheelchair accessible at the moment. We have limited facilities with one indoor toilet which is up a set of stairs and one outdoor camping loo.

By bus:
The number 79C runs between Liverpool and Runcorn. The bus stop is only a 3 minute walk to the farm! Bus fare is £2 each way.

By bicycle:
Use the Liverpool Loop Line to reach the farm. This green corridor is flat and almost entirely traffic-free.

To help reduce carbon emissions, why not consider carpooling?! We will send you an event reminder email ahead of the event date which will include directions to the farm.
