Amy Shadbolt

Veg Box People and Manchester Veg People co-op member

Amy gets stuck in with the various day to day tasks involved with running Veg Box People, and also writes the weekly newsletter and tries out new recipes to include in them - look out for the Middle Eastern dishes – her fave cuisine. She loves 'providing people with an opportunity to buy their veg directly from the producers in a way that is local, sustainable and fairly priced' and finds inspiration from the fact that so much of it is freshly picked and locally grown.

Bio:

She’s returned to the world of food after spending the past decade as a speech and language therapist, but before that Amy helped set up various local food projects, including improving access to affordable fresh fruit and veg in Ancoats and Miles Platting via mobile greengrocers HERBIE. Prior to joining Veg Box People, she was working in her local wholefood shop running.....an organic fruit and veg box scheme!

She says “you can't help but be inspired by all the fantastic things that Kindling are doing and the initiatives that they have helped to set up. I am really passionate about providing people with an opportunity to buy their produce directly from the producers in a way that is local, sustainable and fairly priced. The quality of the produce is fantastic and the fact that much of it is freshly picked and locally grown is inspiring, especially in a city”.

Amy’s ‘best bits’ at work are “meeting the customers and the growers and being an integral part of this local food supply chain. The customers are passionate and interested in where the produce is grown and I really like finding out how they have used the veg and sharing recipe ideas”.

Less enjoyable is having to reverse the large van into tiny parking spaces!!!!! And trying to grow the business with limited time and limited resources is also a challenge. But... "luckily we're a passionate team and there are passionate farmers and customers out there!”
