For Insect Week 2026, we’re inviting you to become Citizen Scientists.

Training level: Beginner
Event details:

We have more than 24,000 species of insects in the UK. From bees, butterflies, ants, beetles, ladybirds and more, they all play a vital role in our ecosystems. Each year, the Royal Entomological Society run a national campaign known as Insect Week to encourage people to protect learn about, observe, and protect these tiny yet important creatures.

This year, we're inviting you to spend the day with local entomologists and experts where you'll learn to identify, collect and record the different species you find. Your recordings will be uploaded to Kindling Farm's iNaturalist profile which helps us monitor the impact of our operations on the natural world. As a Citizen Scientist, you're playing an important part in insect conservation, food production, medicine and ecology.

No previous skills or knowledge required. This is an adult-only session. Please look out for our family-friendly activities later in the season!

The nearest train station is Hough Green - trains from Manchester and Liverpool call here. It is a really straight forward walk along Netherley Road (B5178) to us; it takes around 30 minutes to walk.

By bus:
The number 79C runs between Liverpool and Runcorn. The bus stop is only a 3 minute walk to the farm! Bus fare is £2 each way.

By bicycle:
Use the Liverpool Loop Line to reach the farm. This green corridor is flat and almost entirely traffic-free.

To help reduce carbon emissions, why not consider carpooling?! We will send you an event reminder email ahead of the event date which will include directions to the farm.
