Thinking of a career in farming?

It’s the exciting time of year when we invite all who are interested in our FarmStart training programme to our Do You Want to be an Organic Farmer? event.  We talk about the challenges and joys of farming and the FarmStart training programme format - which is a year of supported growing based in Stockport. There will also be time for a participant led conversation, with the opportunity to ask questions to Helen the FarmStart Co-ordinator, and a FarmStart’er who will have nearly finished their year.

This event is for people who have an interest in developing their growing skills in an organic and environmentally friendly way, and are thinking about applying for the FarmStart programme. For those with less growing experience, the commercial growers course can be more suitable as an introduction. The next commercial growers course will be happening in Spring 2020, if you’d like to be notified when we release more details, please contact us on the email below.

"I've learnt about the unpredictability of growing. The hard work involved. The need to continually keep an eye on your crops. The wonder of it all; how does a dried-up looking seed produce a thriving plant in a matter of a few weeks? This still manages to amaze me. The most challenging aspect was initially the physical aspect of it. For the first month or so, I would be exhausted by Thursday evening; now I am merely tired. But it’s a healthy tiredness, not weariness. Working together with the other trainees has been great. We all have different strengths and we can support each other when one of us is flagging." Nick G, FarmStarter 2019.
