The Kindling Trust are hiring for two roles: Communications Officer for the Kindling Family, and Building Manager for Bridge 5 Mill.

We are a pioneering family of organisations based in Greater Manchester and promoting ecological and social justice through a broad range of activities and projects. We are at an exciting time in the life of our organisations and there has never been a more important time for us to communicate our vision, the opportunities we have to offer and the ways people can get involved.

 

The Communications Officer will work to put our communications strategy for Bridge 5 Mill, the Kindling Trust and Veg Box People into action. We are looking for someone who has excellent communication skills who can work on a variety of tasks while tying together all the work that we do to share with the public.

The Kindling Trust works to create a fairer, more sustainable society, starting with the food system. Over the last 15 years, Kindling has established and run a series of practical projects to engage people in sustainable food and farming. The next exciting stage of our development is to establish a pioneering agroforestry farm on 100 acres close to Manchester. Your role will be to promote all of our sustainable food, community and wellbeing activities and engage and support our members.

Veg Box People is a sister organisation and are at a particularly exciting time in their development. They are working to increase their activity to make organic, local veg and fruit accessible to even more communities around Greater Manchester.

 

The role of Building Manager at Bridge 5 Mill will involve a wide variety of day to day tasks of a practical and physical nature to help us create and maintain Bridge 5 Mill as a welcoming and smoothly functioning building for all of our users. Additionally the Building Manager, in partnership with our Office Manager, will be leading a programme of renewal for our centre for Sustainable Living; helping make us a valuable resource for communities, campaigns and movements working to address future challenges, be that the climate emergency, ecological crisis, equality issues or economic inequality. 

Bridge 5 Mill is Manchester's first centre for sustainable living, based just to the east of Manchester City Centre on the Ashton Canal. Established over 20 years ago this five storey old mill is undergoing a planned period of renewal, with ambitious plans to play an active role in positive social change in Greater Manchester.

We provide offices for a range of amazing tenants who share our vision and, we wish to return to being a thriving venue for many events and activities. We want the Mill to actively support those who are working so hard to make Manchester a greener, healthier, more equitable city.

At Bridge 5 Mill, your role will  be to promote our friendly, beautiful and ecologically sustainable building as a great office space and events venue, whilst working as part of a small team to implement a strategy of rejuvenation focused on physical building improvements and programme of gatherings, training, support for our tenants and stakeholders.

 

The deadline to apply for both role is midnight on Thursday 21st April. The role will start early June or as soon as possible.
