Have a stroll with us, visit our incubator farm site and finish with tea and cake!

A date for your diaries: It’s that time of year for the Kindling Trust’s Countryside Walk, where you can visit our FarmStart Cheshire site en-route. The walk will begin promptly at 11am on Sunday 6th August, at Abbey Leys Organic Farm (near Lymm). Happily, it also coincides with Abbey Leys monthly Farmers Market (10am-1pm) - so do arrive early for a browse! There is plenty of car parking at the farm, plus toilets and a farm shop.

We're delighted to have contributed to this ambitous plan, which sets out a new vision for our food system

A People's Food Policy - England's first people-led food & farming plan - is launched! And Kindling is just one of many UK organisations who have contributed ideas, experiences and insights into this far reaching plan.

The plan contains a vision is of a food system where everybody, regardless of income, status or background, has secure access to enough good food at all times, without compromising on the wellbeing of people, the health of the environment and the ability of future generations to provide for themselves.

Calling the new generation of food activists!

Helen on why we’re holding a day exploring stock-free growing at our Woodbank site: Sat 24th June

"On my recent trip to France looking at incubator farms and access to land, I was discussing with Veronique, one of our hosts from Terre de Liens, the potential of transferring their model to the UK. Veronique, very sympathetically, pointed out that we have a real challenge on our hands here and that she struggles to think of another country where food culture is so lacking.

Stories of hope and of incredible and inspirational people struggling against all odds to create a fairer world

Our Helen recently attended the Lush Spring Prize event, where Kindling was shortlisted for an award.

"After what happened here in Manchester last Monday, it’s hard to know how to start a piece about the event that I was at the time. But it also feels in some way like the right way to respond - both to what happened in Manchester and to the madness of the global shift to the right - with stories of hope and of incredible and inspirational people struggling against all odds to create a fairer, more just world.

FarmStarters
How FarmStarter Belinda's getting on, plus catching up with some previous Farmstarters

Our farming population is aging, and it’s a not an easy career to move into. Our FarmStart programme was the UK’s very first incubator and training initiative for organic growers. FarmStarters at our Woodbank site in Stockport undergo a year-long training scheme, led by experienced grower and trainer Helen Dodd. This year, sports coach and RHS student Belinda is one of them:
